A California woman showed up to the home of her Black neighbors on Monday threatened them with a stun gun and told them to “act like white people.” Adana Dean of Discovery Bay, California discover herself upset because her neighbors’ dog was outside without a leash according to KMVT reports.
“I don’t want to see that dog outside,” the woman told the Jones family. “You guys are acting like Black people, and you should act like white people. You’re acting like people that aren’t normal.”
The family is heard arguing with the woman as she alleges their dog attacked her poodle.
“The dog is not even outside,” someone in the Jones family said in the video. The woman proceeded to accuse the family, but the Joneses provided evidence.
“I have it on camera,” a family member said. Since she was unable to provide proof of her claim, she resorted to racism.
“You’re acting like Black people,” she said. A neighbor recording the video almost dropped the camera when she heard the racist claim.
“We’re acting like what,” she asked.
The woman also explained how she understands Black people.
“I was raised in Oklahoma City where there are tons of Black people,” she said. “You’re a Black person in a white neighborhood, and you’re acting like one. Why don’t you act like a white person in a white neighborhood?”
The family demanded for the woman to leave their property.
“Get the f**k off my property,” they said. The Jones family has lived in the neighborhood for 12 years and said they’ve never had a problem with Dean until this incident.
Despite incident the family stayed composed throughout the encounter.
“She had a stun gun. Had my sister or any of them got physical, myself, with her, the story would’ve been this Black family is assaulting this white lady in the streets,” Gerritt Jones told KMVT.
During the encounter Gerritt was trying to keep his family calm.
“Go in the house,” the man told his loved ones. “Let’s show the world who has class.”
“Unfortunately, that’s the reality of being Black in America,” Gerritt said. “Normal to her is people who will lay down and submit to, unfortunately, her white privilege.”
“I want my son to grow up and be proud of who he is, and I hope that people all over the country learn from this and see that this can’t be tolerated,” Gerritt added.
Since the incident Joneses have created a new slogan: “We’re going to act Black in our white neighborhood.”
